GARBAGE

Garbage must fit in cart with lid closed

Preparation

Garbage only. Yard and garden waste and recyclables are not permitted in garbage carts (black lid).

Accepted

  • Regular Garbage
  • Kitchen Waste
  • Containers with Food
  • Diapers
  • Animal Waste, loose grit/sawdust (must be bagged)
  • Cling wrap, zipper bags, bubble wrap
  • Broken window glass, mirror, ceramics
  • Styrofoam peanuts or chips. Take all other styrofoam to a depot for recyling

Not Accepted

  • No liquids
  • No hot ashes
  • No wood, drywall, metal, concrete or bricks
  • No renovation material
  • No batteries, electronics or small appliances
  • No hazardous materials (motor oil, paint,chemicals, pesticides)
  • No bulbs or light fixtures (take to depot)
  • No recyclables, incl. cardboard or paper
  • No yard/garden waste
  • No Styrofoam or glass (take to depot)

Recyclables

BI-WEEKLY curbside collection of recyclable materials. Mix all recyclables and leave materials loose in the cart.

Preparation

DO NOT place recyclables in bags. Take all glass containers and refundable beverage containers to a bottle depot. Do not pack materials into the cart: it will not empty when dumped.

Accepted

  • Cardboard & boxboard
  • Paper, including newspaper, flyers,magazines, catalogues, gift wrap
  • Shredded paper (place in clear plastic bagonly)
  • Tin and aluminum cans, aluminum foil and lids
  • Spiral wound paper cans
  • Milk & milk alternative cartons (e.g. soy,almond milk)
  • Empty aerosol cans
  • Disposable paper and plastic cups
  • Plastic containers (emptied and rinsed)
  • Plastic garden pots and trays
  • Frozen food packaging

Not Accepted

  • No paper towel, napkins, Kleenex
  • No plastic bags (take to depot)
  • No Styrofoam or glass (take to depot)
  • No books (please donate)
  • No cling wrap, bubble wrap or zipper bags
  • No foil gift wrap
  • No bulbs or light fixtures (take to depot)
  • No mirror or ceramics
  • No needles or medical waste
  • No motor oil, chemical containers or paint cans
  • No diapers
  • No batteries, electronics or small appliances(take to depot)
  • No used clothing (donate)
  • No scrap metal, wood or renovation material
  • No plastic toys, storage bins, pails largerthan 25 L
  • No propane cylinders, spray paint cans

Yard & Garden waste

BI-WEEKLY curbside collection of yard and garden waste, March 1st to November 30th. Put all yard waste loosely into cart. Residents are encouraged to grasscycle and compost.

Preparation

NO plastic bags, no paper bags, no biodegradable bags, no containers. Do not pack materials into the cart; it will not empty when dumped. Yard or garden waste is not permitted in the garbage cart.

Yard waste must fit in cart with lid closed. NO yard waste collection December, January or February.

Accepted

  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Weeds
  • Plant trimmings
  • Prunings and branches up to 5cm (2in) indiameter AND less than 1m (3ft) long
  • Pine needles & cones
  • Pumpkins
  • Fruit droppings

Not Accepted

  • No plastic, paper or compostable bags
  • No dirt, sod, rocks or tree stumps
  • No kitchen or food waste
  • No diapers
  • No used tissue or paper towels
  • No regular garbage
  • No animal feces or kitty litter
  • No construction or renovation materials
  • No agricultural or commercial waste
  • No landscape fabric or plastic edging
  • No plastic flower pots (recycle in blue lid cart)
